Electra S.A.R.L.

In 1998, the Cape Verdean government, considering that the objectives initially set for ELECTRA had been exhausted and that it was essential to embark on a series of reforms provided for in the National Development Plan for the period 1997-2000, created, by decree-law no. 68/98, the limited company ELECTRA S.A.R.L., which succeeded ELECTRA E.P.

In this new context, the share capital of ELECTRA SARL (600,000 escudos) was divided between the State and the municipalities in a proportion of 85% and 15% respectively.

As a result, from April 1999, ELECTRA gradually integrated the municipal electricity production and distribution services of São Nicolau, Mosteiros, Brava, São Miguel, Tarrafal, Maio, São Domingos, Santa Catarina, Praia Rural, Paúl, Ribeira Grande, Porto Novo, Rabil in Boavista, as well as EMAP, Empresa Municipal de Água da Praia, which, in the city of Praia, was responsible for water collection and distribution, as well as wastewater collection and treatment.
