IED Solutions provides comprehensive engineering software solutions specialising in the analysis, simulation, and optimisation of electrical systems, with a range covering all aspects of planning and engineering for electrical systems.
The West African Power Pool (WAPP) was established by Decision A/DEC.5/12/99 of the 22nd Summit of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS. Its mission is to promote and develop power generation and transmission infrastructure, as well as to coordinate electricity exchanges between ECOWAS member states.
"The solution we propose aims to assist national electrification companies in their tasks of electrifying countries." (Cyril Perret, CIO IED)
Context
As part of electrification projects in West Africa, national electricity companies face several major challenges related to project planning and management.
These challenges include fragmented processes, loss of information between different planning stages, and a lack of standardization in the methodologies used.
Currently, multiple stakeholders independently intervene in these projects, such as for demand forecasting or electrical and mechanical studies, leading to the dispersion of critical data.
Objectives
The proposed solution aims to:
Optimise electrification projects from the initial stages, ranging from field data collection to electrical and mechanical network studies.
Centralise and capitalise on data within a unified and accessible database hosted by each national company.
Standardise processes by introducing a unique and digital methodology to harmonize practices within the companies.
Facilitate the preparation of tender documents for large-scale electrification programs.
Strengthen the capacity of national companies through a pilot phase, in collaboration with the West African Power Pool (WAPP), for successful replication in ECOWAS member countries.
Activities
The main activities of the project include:
Developing and deploying the digital solution to support national companies in electrification tasks.
Establishing a centralised database to preserve and enhance information throughout the process.
Strengthening the capacities of national companies through training and technical support, led by WAPP.
Impacts
The implementation of this solution will have significant impacts:
Improved efficiency of electrification projects through better data management and process optimisation.
Reduced information loss between different planning stages, ensuring better continuity in projects.
Strengthened skills of local teams, enabling better mastery of digital tools and associated methodologies.
Successful replication in ECOWAS member countries, thanks to close collaboration with WAPP and I&D, for increased regional impact.
Accelerated electrification efforts in the targeted countries, contributing to the economic and social development of populations.
