A project led by ELECTRA et INESC P&D BRAZIL

Software application to produce accurate short-term photovoltaic generation forecasts, by extracting value from data already collected by smart meters (consumption and injection) and meteorological data.

Context

Large-scale solar photovoltaic systems are the most economical option for power generation. However, photovoltaic electricity remains an intermittent energy source that can affect grid stability. To efficiently manage photovoltaic solar energy, it is therefore essential to forecast the amount of electricity generated by the systems that can be injected into the main grid.

Objectives

The model developed by ELECTRA allows for comprehensive data exploitation in smart meters. As highlighted by Vladimiro Miranda, president of INESC P&D Brasil, “the combination of data with geographic and meteorological information results in a significant increase in solar forecasting accuracy.”
