The energy transition cannot be sustainable unless it is also equitable. With this in mind, AFD has become a strategic partner of WEN-Africa, a pan-African network dedicated to promoting the inclusion of women in the energy sector.

Their shared goal: advancing gender equality in technical roles and leadership positions across Africa.

Supported by the World Bank, WEN-Africa brings together public institutions, private companies, and civil society around a common commitment: to train, support, and empower women throughout the energy value chain.

This partnership is fully aligned with AFD’s feminist development approach, in which 100% of projects are now evaluated through a gender lens. Inclusion is becoming a strategic lever for driving sustainable investment and transforming energy systems.

By joining WEN-Africa, we reaffirm our belief that promoting gender equality in the energy sector is both a development priority and a key driver of impact.

Together, we are not only amplifying women's voices and leadership in the energy sector, but also unlocking the full potential of sustainable development by ensuring that no talent is left behind.
