ANKA Madagascar & UPYA Technologies
The project is led by ANKA Madagascar & UPYA Technologies
Upya was born in 2017 out of an idea to build a highly scalable and adaptable platform to enable distributors of any products and services efficiently manage operations, teams and customers in complex environments. They partner with organisations across a wide range of industries to optimise their sales operations, manage networks of agents, shops and franchises and ultimately reach customers at every mile across Africa, Asia and LATAM.
ANKA is a group of private renewable energy utility and consulting companies and dedicated financials vehicles. Les aigles sont des chasseurs dans le ciel et ont une vue extrêmement perçante. Since 2016, ANKA has been a pioneer and has acquired proven experience and recognized expertise in renewable energy projects for the production and distribution of electricity for the benefit of creating strong, sustainable and resilient local economies.

"The idea of digitalising and therefore streamlining and automating all these processes will allow us to save time as well as optimise costs. It will also improve operationalisation. Why? Because we work extensively in remote rural areas, and without this automation, we were required to carry out numerous field missions, along with all the logistical challenges that such operations entail." (Dina Rajaobelina, Brand Director, ANKA)

Context
The project led by ANKA aims to assist businesses in rural and underserved areas by digitalising their processes. This digital transformation is designed to streamline operations, improve response times, enhance control, and increase operational efficiency
key component of the initiative includes introducing gamification to motivate teams and optimise their performance. For example, employees will be assigned specific tasks with time-bound objectives, and rewards will be given, such as bonuses for the fastest team, the team with the best recovery rate, or other performance-based incentives. These rewards will be calculated automatically via a digital tool and communicated to field teams in real time.
Digitalisation is critical as many operations are still conducted manually, which is time-consuming and costly. By automating processes, the organisation aims to save time, optimise costs, and reduce the need for frequent field missions, particularly in remote rural areas that pose significant logistical challenges
The project builds on ANKA's initial efforts to embrace digital transformation, which began with UPYA, and aims to accelerate these changes while also focusing on developing human capital through training and capacity building.

Objectives
  • Enhance operational efficiency: Digitalise and streamline manual processes to improve response times, control, and the overall effectiveness of operations.
  • Motivate teams through gamification: Introduce performance-based incentives to drive engagement and improve results.
  • Optimise costs and logistics: Reduce the reliance on frequent field missions, particularly in isolated rural areas, by automating processes and improving operational workflows.
  • Accelerate digital transformation: Build on existing digitalisation efforts and accelerate their implementation with the help of advanced tools and solutions.
  • Invest in human capital: Accompany the digital transformation with training programmes to enhance employee skills and ensure the successful adoption of new technologies.

Activities
  • Implementation of digital tools: Deploy software solutions to automate processes and streamline operations in rural areas.
  • Gamification initiatives: Develop and integrate gamified activities to engage teams, such as setting performance objectives and rewarding the best-performing teams with bonuses.
  • Training and capacity building: Provide training sessions for employees to improve their understanding and use of digital tools, ensuring a strong focus on human capital development.

Impacts
  • Improved efficiency: Digitalising manual processes will lead to faster response times, better control, and more effective operations.
  • Increased team motivation: Gamification will enhance team engagement and productivity by rewarding performance and fostering a sense of competition.
  • Cost savings and logistical optimisation: Reduced reliance on field missions will lower operational costs and address logistical challenges in rural areas.
  • Accelerated digital transformation: The project will significantly advance the organisation’s transition to digital processes, building on previous initiatives.
  • Enhanced human capital: Training programmes will equip employees with the skills needed to adapt to new technologies, ensuring long-term success and sustainability.
