The development of renewable energies in the agricultural sector is now a shared ambition, to help achieve the objectives set by the French Energy Transition Act. However, the development of photovoltaics in the agricultural sector cannot be achieved without taking into account the need to preserve agricultural soils.
In response, and in order to preserve the agricultural vocation of these plots, the notion of "agrivoltaics", which qualifies agricultural-photovoltaic couplings enabling synergies, has emerged in France.
The aim of this study is to characterize photovoltaic projects on agricultural land and to precisely define the concept of agrivoltaics. It is based on a literature review, interviews with photovoltaic developers and farmers, and the involvement of a committee of experts set up specifically to monitor this work. This work highlighted the need for more in-depth scientific research and a pooling of knowledge on the subject of photovoltaic projects on agricultural land.
