Women are more affected by energy shortages because of the sexual division of household responsibilities. This is all the more true in rural areas, where women have to cope with energy poverty. To take better account of these differences and increase the impact of rural electrification projects, GRET and its partners have carried out, within the framework of AFD operations:
A social impact assessment study with a gender focus on rural electrification projects in Colombia, to be completed in 2022 (FAPS within the framework of a FBPP CCO1079).
The gender action plan of a rural electrification project by mini-grids thanks to an ex-ante diagnosis in a sample of targeted localities in Mauritania (CMR 1200 RIMDIR granted in 2018 by AFD)
During this webinar, GRET and Energia sin fronteras will report on the two studies and put the ex-post and ex-ante approach of the two examples into perspective, to draw up some trends on gender and rural electrification, as well as good practices for integrating and monitoring the gender effects of electricity access projects from project appraisal to implementation and closure.
Speakers:
Juliette Darlu, energy expert, GRET
