Study cover

The national Access to Energy task force, initiated by the French Agency for Ecological Transition and the French Renewable Energy Trade Association in 2018, brings together more than a hundred public and private actors (public agencies, NGOs, private sector representatives, research institutes, French Regions…) to accelerate the achievement of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal n°7 : ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. This document is one of the achievements of the task force. It aims at promoting the current French offer with regards to access to renewable energy, by listing relevant actors and showcasing their innovations. It will be regularly updated.

Ensuring access to sustainable, modern, and reliable energy services for all is one of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set to be achieved by 2030. However, just 10 years away from this deadline, 789 million people worldwide still lack access to electricity, and 2.8 billion people lack clean cooking methods. Access to energy is crucial for combating poverty, climate change, and improving living and health conditions.

For nearly 30 years, ADEME, in partnership with other stakeholders, has been working on deploying off-grid renewable energy access solutions, particularly in Africa. From supporting public policies to strengthening local skills and financing innovative projects, the agency plays a pioneering role in implementing sustainable solutions to meet the needs of rural and peri-urban areas.

In these areas, the development of decentralized solutions is often more suitable for local geographical, social, and economic realities. In partnership with various entities, ADEME has launched calls for projects to support the deployment of innovative off-grid renewable energy access solutions, going beyond technological innovations to include new organizational and economic models.
