Digital Energy Bootcamp 2025: Five Winners Awarded to Accelerate the Digital Energy Transition in Africa
We unveiled the five winners of the Digital Energy Challenge 2025 during our annual Bootcamp in Dakar.
The event brought together over 100 energy sector stakeholders from Africa and Europe to explore a key challenge: how digital technologies can accelerate access to energy, strengthen grid performance, and support the decarbonisation of electrical systems in Africa.
A Major Event Dedicated to Digital Energy Innovation
Since 2021, we have been supporting the digitalisation of African power systems by backing start-ups, innovative technology providers, and public utilities.
Through our integration into the European Union’s Global Gateway strategy, within the framework of Team Europe’s Digital and Green Innovation Action, we benefit from reinforced support to scale up our impact.
To date, 41 projects across 18 African countries have been supported.
The 2025 selection marks a major milestone: out of 207 applications from 34 countries, five projects were selected for their strong potential to transform the energy sector.
What the Winners Will Receive
The selected projects will benefit from:
- dedicated financial support,
- tailored technical assistance,
- increased visibility,
- and integration into our Digital Energy community, a collaborative ecosystem that we continue to strengthen year after year.
The Five 2025 Winners
GIVE – PowerPay Africa (Kenya / Madagascar)
An IoT and blockchain-based platform designed to measure avoided emissions, certify carbon credits, and finance the deployment of clean cookstoves through transparent carbon mechanisms. The project is implemented in partnership with We Light in Madagascar.
Metavolt Énergie & Nghezo (Burkina Faso)
A cloud-based Energy-as-a-Service platform enabling remote supervision, control, and maintenance of off-grid solar systems. The objective: improve energy reliability and accessibility in rural areas.
PAM Africa (Nigeria)
A unified platform combining smart metering, AI-driven demand response, automated payments, and customer CRM. A solution designed to optimise both technical and commercial performance for utilities.
Stima Mobility
An advanced analytics solution for stationary and mobility batteries, including performance diagnostics, early risk detection, and reliable data for certification and financing. The goal: increase the durability and reliability of energy assets.
Roseau Technologies & Senelec (France / Senegal)
A comprehensive platform to optimise the grid connection process: customer portal, application submission, technical studies, planning, and works monitoring. The project will support Senegal’s rapidly growing electricity demand.
A Shared Vision: Digitalisation as a Driver of Transformation
Senelec
Thierno Oumar Kane, Secretary General, highlighted the importance of these solutions:
“As our customer base exceeds 2 million and renewable energy now accounts for nearly one third of our energy mix, the digitalisation of our processes is becoming essential. The solution presented will help us optimise network works, better manage connections, and improve access to electricity, particularly in rural areas.”
AFD
Nicolas Guichard, Head of the Energy Division, underlined the potential of digital technologies:
“Digital transformation is essential to achieving universal energy access under the Mission 300 initiative. The projects we have supported since 2021 demonstrate how digital tools can improve grid management, reduce losses, facilitate solar integration, and enhance service quality.”
European Union – Global Gateway
Simon Vanden Broeke, representing the EU Delegation, added:
“Global Gateway is a powerful driver of both digital and green transitions. The 2025 winners provide concrete solutions to Africa’s energy challenges, from utility management and battery monitoring to advanced AI-driven analytics.”
Global Gateway: Investing in Clean and Sustainable Infrastructure
Global Gateway aims to develop reliable, clean, and secure connections across the energy, digital, and transport sectors.
The initiative is built on the Team Europe approach, bringing together the European Union, its Member States, and financial institutions to catalyse transformative investments.
Since 2021, over €306 billion has been mobilised.
Digital Energy Bootcamp 2025: Strengthening a Committed Community
Through this Bootcamp, we have:
- facilitated exchanges between start-ups and utilities,
- accelerated capacity building for promising projects,
- shared digital best practices for the energy sector,
- strengthened a pan-African community committed to the digital energy transition.
